Well, tomorrow the Dodgers will have a weaker bullpen, while the Astros will have their full complement, such as it is.

Yeah, this is huge, the Dodgers need one of these two games the next two nights in HOU and Maeda is maybe out for both, HOU somehow got through that game with just McCullers and Peacock.

I am still not totally sure who I am rooting for, but I definitely want HOU to win again tomorrow so we can see Kershaw in a must-win game on the road against a 8-0 at home HOU team playing their last game at home of the season, win or lose. After that, I just want to watch it play out, may the best team win.

Actually, just saw the video after reading about it. Disgusting. Gurriel should not play in the rest of the series if MLB wants to maintain any credibility. God that was awful!!

EDIT: MLB cannot become Euro soccer. Put an end to this now.

Was rooting for the Astros, but no longer if Gurriel plays another game.

Yu Darvish is a bigger person than you are

Darvish also later tweeted a statement, saying people should put effort into "learning rather than to accuse [Gurriel]."

"If we can take something from this, that is a giant step for mankind. Since we are living in such a wonderful world, let's stay positive and move forward instead of focusing on anger. I'm counting on everyone's big love," Darvish wrote.

Cools. We get where E5 stands and that's with the racists. Awesome take, man!
I said nothing of the sort. I'm merely stating that Gurriel got caught using an offensive gesture and language. It doesn't mean that there aren't people with similar views on every other team.

How you got that I am a racist based on pointing that out is beyond my comprehension.

I hope Gurriel isn't suspended, but I am rooting for Darvish to throw an 80 pitch perfect game in game seven.

California. Duh.
The fact Gurriel actually played in Japan a few years ago makes that even more surprising. Tough to profess cultural ignorance in that case.

Darvish is cutting him a huge break by trying to diffuse things.

Because I dislike when championships are affected by suspensions if they're not absolutely necessary. I disliked it when it was Amare Stoudemire getting off the bench against the Spurs, I disliked it when it was Draymond Green against the Cavs and I would dislike this. Suspend Gurriel for all of April if that needs to be done, but not now. FWIW, my wife is Japanese, from Tokyo, not that that really matters.

Also putting on my Dope hat for a second, you guys need to stop being dicks ASAP or Gurriel isn't going to be the only one suspended. The comment to E5 above by riboflav was completely over the line.

It’s shocking this is the kind of response you have on SOSH. And having a Japanese wife doesn’t magically skew the weight of your opinion. In my opinion, you should be even more ashame.

Darvish's statement is incredible and there is a lot of value in trying to educate and understand as opposed to just burning down everything. Riboflav's view that he can't root for Houston anymore because they foster racists is incredibly naive.

Forgetting the previous poster. Why do you put the player over the game? I won’t pretend to have some faux outrage that I think Gurriel is the scum of the earth but this was pretty bad and pretty disgusting. It’s pretty simple, the MLB (and all leagues) can’t let the behavior go unchecked and fines are bullshit. Even a 1 game suspension would be fine.

Yeah, it was bad and racist and should be punished, I'd just personally prefer the suspension happen at the start of next season. But my opinion on this doesn't actually matter, only Rob Manfred's does.

Jon, I get what you're saying and I also prefer to see games of this magnitude played with a full compliment of players. The scenario that you present about suspending Gurriel for all of April vs missing a game(s) during this World Series makes no sense to me. I'm guessing that given the option Gurriel might pick that as well and IMO that's the sort of thing that sends a bad message, sets a dangerous precedent and becomes a slippery slope when disciplining players in the future. From where I sit, whatever discipline that MLB and/or the Astros decide on needs to be swift.

Will never happen, but I'd like to see the Astros get out ahead of this and bench him for tonight's game. Send the message that they don't countenance this kind of repugnant behavior, and combine it with an unconditional on-camera apology from Gurriel. I suspect Jon Abbey is correct, and MLB punishment won't be dished out until April. But this would be a great opportunity for the Astros organization to take the lead on individual franchises policing these kinds of incidents as well.

The thing is, he'd appeal any suspension, and the appeal hearing would never be held until after the World Series is over.

It may be an apple to oranges comparison, but there is another precedence for starting a post season earned suspension the next season. The A's Bert Campaneris earned a late start for the "73 season for throwing his bat at Lerrin LaGrow of the Tigers in the "72 ALCS after getting hit by a pitch. I tried to post a video of the bat toss, I hope it works. In any case Gurriel desereves whatever he gets.
