Good thing they went to commercial before the camera could catch Guriel mocking Morrow for having diabetes.

Seriously, what is with the G-d Bless America thing?

They play the Anthem at the start. Do you guys really need this?

Disclaimer: As much you know, I am not an American so serious question for me.

Fuck if I know. And I'm as American as any dude whose grandparents were born in Europe and holds two passports.

Blame the Yankees post 9/11.
The Yankees excel at this, use the long version and give you crap if you want to use the restroom or something, but all of MLB instituted GBA after 9/11.

Not that I wouldn't mind blaming the Yankees for anything bad that happens in this world.

Oh, I know they did it league-wide, but I think if the Yankees weren't in the series in 2001 it may not have continued beyond that.

Back to baseball, if you decide to bunt, and see the oportunity, make sure you can get it down Reddick, didn't the Red Sox teach you to... Oh!

Also, this inning is playing like a Red Sox squander special.

Stripling has walked someone on 4 pitches the last 2 times he came in, so naturally here he is with the bases loaded.

They started the anthem thing during WW I
I learned that when watching Eight Men Out.

But playing the Anthem is not a bad idea, especially to start a game.

Oh, and I think The Sta Spangled Banner was not officially the Anthem then?

I'm getting the vibe from the folks here that the patriotic song stuff before and during ballgames is tending towards jingoism.
Well, the idea among many that the Nazi who stands for the anthem is a better person than the patriot who kneels kinda plays into that.

The hair is not for you, huh?

Speaking of pigeons, this Peacock is showing some mettle.

And, speaking of peacocks, Darwin wrote a lot about them. He used their plumage as a case study for his theory of sexual selection.

Which brings us full circle to Yu Darvish, who seems from your account to have the human equivalent of plumage.
The prettiest people I've known are the result of the mixing of two very different ethic and/or racial strains. Darvish is an example, tho he's not as gorgeous as Halle Berry, of course.

These Astros hitters sure love to hot dog. I would love a Dodger comeback right now.

I think they should play all four verses before every game instead of just one verse.

I mean, who ends a fucking anthem with a question? It's like we start every baseball game with a fucking cliffhanger. Every fucking time, when it's over, I'm like what the fuck?

Does it still wave? Saw it all night. But it sounds like it was pretty rough. Sounds like it's 50/50 whether it made it. Oh, I hope it's still there. Because if it were, that would be a great metaphor for, like, American resilience.

Are we really going to just play ball without the fucking answer? It's totally cruel. Why isn't everyone in the arena furious? It's like stopping the movie after the first reel.

I guess it's possible we've invented a mandatory artificial patriotic moment that everyone seems to find incredibly important as a litmus test for how one feels about his country or the troops or whatever, but they've never even taken a fucking moment to contemplate a fucking thing about the song or the words.

Nah.
