Yeah, Mazz kept bypassing Sean and insisted on discussing what Butler is worth in the range between what UFAs Ryan and Gilmore signed for. Murray was not much better, harping on a possible Pats offer of $6-7 million a year ago being a slap in the face to Butler. It was McAdam and Extra Whiny Mazz today. Sean attempted to beat into Mazz the difference between RFA and UFA. I don't think it took.
The exact same thing didn't happen. McCourty signed during the moronically titled "legal tampering" period and never became a free agent. As if the exact same thing didn't happen with McCourty a few years ago.
Meh. A distinction without a real difference. They allowed him to talk to other teams. The exact same thing didn't happen. McCourty signed during the moronically titled "legal tampering" period and never became a free agent.
Brad-bots beep beep boopJim Murray is literally just another Felger/Mazz.
He has adopted their persona, except he is less talented than Felger. He is just so mad because Celtic fans like IT, are happy they are winning.
THese guys make it so they can't be wrong. If the Celtics finish lower than 2nd seed, they say they are "just another team." Now they might finish #1 and it is "well don't tell me they can get away with anything less than a ECF."
They also are mad at the reverence fans have for IT and Stevens, but that reverence is justified. They can find the occasional fan who says something stupid (ie, we will beat CLE) but the news is never good for the Celtics. If they are good the news is "being good doesn't matter."
It is just fucking ridiculous. Felger will crème himself if the B's finish 8th. The C's may finish 1
This is why I stopped listening to them last year and never looked back. I don't want all sunshine and roses, but I got sick of being trolled during my commute home every day. And from reading this thread, seemingly that is all they are at this point - trolls. Between the 100% focus on the negative, the constant moving of the goalposts, etc. Every update to this thread just reminds me that I made the right decision. You're right, a daily Chris Farley Show would be boring and suck, I don't argue that. But sometimes you have to say a good win is a good win, otherwise you're trolling. And that's as boring and sucky as TCFS.

He won't complain about yesterday. He focuses on losing Espinoza for a pitcher he views as not that good. Why complain about Drew?
Mazz sees Pomeranz as exclusively a bullpen pitcher, becuz Dombrowski sucks at building bullpenz!!1!11!Why complain about Drew? He pitched great. 6 innings one run ball? Don't understand why you would have a problem with his outing yesterday either..Both him and Sale have been the least of the Red Sox problems.
Mazz is obssessed with giving up Espinoza, a player he NEVER saw pitch and is only going off of third--hand commentary from Cafardoesque sources. He has absolutely no idea about anything regarding Espinoza. He won't complain about yesterday. He focuses on losing Espinoza for a pitcher he views as not that good.
To be fair to Mazz, Espinoza did have a 4.49 ERA in A ball last year and averaged 4.5 innings a game. So he's a lock and the future Pedro.Mazz sees Pomeranz as exclusively a bullpen pitcher, becuz Dombrowski sucks at building bullpenz!!1!11!

Pomeranz: overpay, bad, hurt, and belongs in the bullpen. Espinoza: 19YO Sandy Koufax, according to someone who told Mazz.
That's Mazz' perspective, come hell, high water, or 6+ innings of 4-hit pitching against the hallowed Buck Showalter's squad.
Felger and Mazz don't need anyone's defense, but their trolling fits into the overall sphere of sports talk. There was barely room for nuance in sports radio 20 years ago and that fissure has been sealed shut for the foreseeable future. The forum would be hard pressed to name a local or national sports radio talk show that it approves. An overwhelming majority troll their audience, while most of the rest run interference for the sports establishment. I guess Dan Patrick hosts an even keeled show, but I have never found national sports talk to be compelling. The only solution to these guys is to ignore them.
Holley and Keefe. They're smart, they discuss things based mostly on facts, state what they are biased about, and don't take themselves too seriously. They're mostly having a non-adversial conversation about sports. And then Dale goes and steps on their whole flow.Felger and Mazz don't need anyone's defense, but their trolling fits into the overall sphere of sports talk. EDIT: T&R doesn't troll and mostly doesn't pander. I wonder if that is because they did not make their names working in sports media.
Agreed. But their thread has not been hit in three months exactly.Holley and Keefe. True enough, but there's also little point in posting things like, "Another really enjoyable show from Holley and Keefe today." I've been a steady online listener since Keefe made the jump, and I couldn't be happier.Agreed. But their thread has not been hit in three months exactly.
As with politicians, we largely get what we deserve.
People do it for Toucher and Rich or articles by Joe Pos.True enough, but there's also little point in posting things like, "Another really enjoyable show from Holley and Keefe today."
The third chair makes all the difference. Felger and Mazz went way downhill after Beetle went to middays and was replaced with the horrible not funny Jim Murray.True enough, but there's also little point in posting things like, "Another really enjoyable show from Holley and Keefe today." I've been a steady online listener since Keefe made the jump, and I couldn't be happier.
I do wonder, though, what management ultimately does about the fact that a pretty good-to-good show becomes a very good-to-great show every time Dale isn't there. The strength of the broadcast is the easy and winning chemistry that Holley and Keefe are developing.
Worst take ever? Kirk and Callahan are taking credit for getting Hernandez to kill him self since they broke the story he may be bisexual. That's a much worse take.Dear Lord Maz is going from feeling compassion for Hernandez (wtf?) to being outraged he killed himself, and is saying he may have killed himself because he got off on the double murder but knows he did it and feels guilty he's not being punished for it, I can't say I've ever heard a worse take on anything ever before.
Seriously? Felger called out Hurley while he's out on paternity leave on the air with no provocation. The issue is he called it out the air and then dismissed it as joking. Felger's been a douche about this issue for awhile and it's tired.Good Lord, Hurley was being a total pussy. It sounded like his argument was that he needed all the extra time at home because his wife has a screaming newborn with a 2 year old to deal with. Ok, I know exactly what that's like. And he said that they don't have parents and/or in-laws available to help. Believe me, I know what it's like to go from 1 child to 2, some days it feels like you went from 1 child to 5. Then don't have the second child then if it's going to be that much of a hardship with only one parent at home. What's the wife going to do after the 2 weeks? She's still going to end up having to deal with the clusterfuck of a 2 week old and a 2 year old with no help.
It was great to see Mike snap the moment Hurley brought up the Nantucket thing. I know everyone puts their work at a different priority level, but I agree with Mike on this one.
Didn't hear it, never listen, but from what I'm seeing here, Felger's a gigantic douchebag (no surprise). Who is he or you or anyone else to judge whether or not this guy is justified in taking two weeks of paternity leave? Perhaps the delivery was difficult and mom's recovery wasn't exactly smooth sailing. There's plenty that can happen that is completely unexpected or unforeseen when they decide to have the second kid.Good Lord, Hurley was being a total pussy. Felger actually does always qualify that his position is based on no medical abnormalities.Didn't hear it, never listen, but from what I'm seeing here, Felger's a gigantic douchebag (no surprise). Just to offer an example, my sister had some trouble during the birth of her second kid because the doctor fucked up the epidural. She had some leaking of spinal fluid that caused headaches and dizziness anytime she was upright for longer than 15-20 minutes. She was pretty much bedridden for a week after she got home. No way she was handling a newborn and a 2.5 year old on her own. Fortunately for her, her mother-in-law, our mother and I are all nearby enough that we could pitch in. My brother-in-law's employer was pretty understanding as well, giving him whatever time he needed.
Can't imagine the bind they'd have been in if they were further away from family and his employers were Felger-ian dicks about paternity leave.
Well, I always thought Felger's rants towards Hurley seemed fairly lighthearted. I thought Hurley sounded like a whiner saying Felger was "attacking him and his family". I don't remember Felger saying anything about his family.Seriously? Felger called out Hurley while he's out on paternity leave on the air with no provocation. The issue is he called it out the air and then dismissed it as joking. Felger's been a douche about this issue for awhile and it's tired.
Your following points are not relevant about wanting to have kids or not etc. Hurley is doing what most normal parents do and take a couple weeks when you have kids. He's not asking for months off, he's just taking a couple weeks which his employer agrees with. Felger's not gotten ahead because he didn't take paternity leave etc. His argument is a pile of crap.
On the other hand I do agree with Felger if you're a starting pitcher get your shit done and deal with it. Calling out a lower level employee at your own organization is another story. Fuck him.
His points on work ethic are valid but not appropriately applied. There's a difference between an employee that make sure they get every vacation hour every year and milks it vs someone taking a couple weeks twice in their life when they have a kid.Well, I always thought Felger's rants towards Hurley seemed fairly lighthearted. I thought Hurley sounded like a whiner saying Felger was "attacking him and his family". I don't remember Felger saying anything about his family.
And if the company gives you 2 weeks, fine take it. But I just think it's kind of overkill.
I just think Felger's points on work ethic are valid. If Hurley doesn't advance in his job as fast as he wants, it's just something to keep in mind. Will those 2 weeks really make a difference? Probably not. And maybe Hurley doesn't care, he just wants to have a job. That's fine too, nothing wrong with that.
