I just watched Grambling beat NC Central in a defensive struggle that was actually well-played, 10-9, when a NCC touchdown that seemed to tie the game with 2 minutes left was followed by an unsportsmanlike celebration penalty, pushing the PAT back 15 yards, which was then blocked.

Since it's a fairly impressive record - San Diego State's RB Donnel Pumphrey broke the FBS career rushing record, hitting a total of 6,405 for his college career.
To be fair, while Pumphrey topped Ron Dayne's official record, for some dumb reason yardage gained in bowl games before 2002 aren't included in players' official records. Dayne got like 750 yards in his 4 bowl games.

Dayne was kind of an under appreciated college running back, his unexceptional NFL career notwithstanding

I was working at the San Diego / Houston game. Third vegas bowl. Got to meet marshawn lynch and victorino was there again (though I didn't get to talk to him this time).

Stadium was only half full. Really disappointing turnout.

EMU versus Old Dominion has kicked off in the Bahamas Bowl. EMU's first bowl game since 1987, and ODU's first ever in their 2nd year of eligibility and only 8th year of football.

ODU is led by former Maine QB Bobby Wilder.

Old Dominion's story is kind of fascinating. They had football for about a decade in the 30s and 40s when they were a remote campus of William & Mary, and weren't half bad, over .500. Then they canceled football because of $10,000 of debt.

The program was reborn 9 years ago (like most new programs, redshirting their entire first recruiting class), and plays in Foreman Field, the same stadium (with significant renovations) as the original iteration.

The stadium is going to be essentially knocked down and rebuilt over next few years. They've sold out every game.

Two terrible PI calls against Navy to keep La Tech drive moving, the second erasing a Navy INT. I hate bad officiating. 38-38 but Tech inside the 5.
Really brutal calls against the Mids. LA Tech's offense was impressive as always, though. Skip Holtz is doing a fine job.

It's crazy to me that Virginia only had 2 FBS programs until Old Dominion came up. It's a big state with a good amount of players. Even more so with Georgia until Georgia St and Georgia Southern got to FBS relatively recently

That talent in the 757 area is why ODU will be able to bring P5 schools in to play the next few years. UNC next season, Va Tech and UVA in the years after.

Flying up to Charlotte tomorrow for the Belk Bowl on Thursday. Gotta support my Hogs against the Hokies, although my expectations are certainly tempered (years of Razorback conditioning).

Wake Forest looks like a completely different team today after the "Wakeyleaks" thing broke. It appears it was a huge issue for their offense.

right after SCar made it 22-14 with 1:12 to go in the 1st half, USF drove down and, on 4th and 3, scored a 37 yard TD pass to make it 29-14 at halftime

So cold here in Charlotte. Awesome first quarter by the Hogs though.
Congrats, hope you're enjoying yourself. Wish they could have at least pretended to show up but Fuente apparently learned from Beamer and it was more important for the players to have fun jet skiiing on Lake Norman than do bowl prep.

Was the call that it was holding prior to the return? It seems like they ignored the kick part entirely - and enforced the penalty on the defense, effectively giving the offense a 1st down

I have literally no idea what just happened. Hogs never had the ball. And there was holding on the punt. So somehow it was a first down back where they kicked from.

Like, I think not only was the call wrong. But forgetting that and assuming it was Arkansas ball then it should have been at the other 29 right?

The most Razorback game ever.
I'm really really happy. I'm also pretty drunk on really good bourbon. But I also kind of feel bad for you.

I have no idea what was with this team and bad 1st and good 2nd halves but 17 back to ND and won, 21 back to Clemson and were 15 yards from tying, and 24 back tonight. Whatever Fuente is doing at halftime is obviously working. I'd just like for it to not have to happen quite so dramatically.

A rejuvenated Foster defense. A competent offense that can put points on the board. And 10 wins in his first year. Me likey. Me likey a lot.

Anyone watching Colorado-OSU? Paging @RingoOSU

Don't like the punt there by CU on 4th and 1. Down 10-0, I'd go for the momentum shift (though in fairness, I'm sure the coaches didn't expect < 30 yards net on the punt).

Edit: And just like that, OSU in the red zone. So much for "playing it safe."

Anyone still watching?

If that pick play is legal, I don't know why you'd run any other play within 5 yards - there seems to be no way to defend that

There are no pass interference restrictions either way on passes thrown in or behind the neutral zone. So the offense can set picks but the defense could just tackle the open receiver.

You should likey. This team is going to be very, very good next year (and they were good this year). One of the more impressive showings of the year, to me, was when they showed up in Chapel Hill in the middle of an active hurricane (and remember, at that time UNC had a ton of momentum) and beat the shit out of them. Like, all of the shit, just beat right out.

I am convinced that there are, at best, 4 people in the US who understand the PI rules in their entirety.
I think it would help if along with the rule books the officials manuals were publicly available. It would help announcers too. For example, ALL PI fouls have to be put into one of the following categories:
For OPI:
1) Blocking downfield (picks)
2) Shoving or pushing off
3) Driving through a defender (Gronk category)
4) Receiver turns a defender

DPI:
1) Early contact while not playing the ball
2) Playing through the back of the receiver
3) Defender grabs and restricts the receiver
4) Defender places an arm bar on the receiver
5) Defender cuts off / ride the receiver out of bounds
6) Defenders hooks the receiver with his arm and turns him.

If it's not any of those explicitly, it's not PI.
