I bet they can hire 5 Smiley McTwentysomethings for what they were paying those two.

I sat next to McAdam for a few innings during a Sox / Angels game in Anaheim (he came down from the press box to sit and talk with some scouts). We talked for a while after the scouts left. He was a real sweet guy during my interaction with him. I hope he and Neumy catch on somewhere else.

Was Neumeier on CSN before he got sick? If so, I wonder if this has been in the cards for a while.

McAdam I've always liked -- tho I haven't seen nearly as much of him since he left the ProJo. Is he still with the Herald?

No, he wrote for CSNNE.com.

As far as The Baseball Show goes, I wonder if it will be Trenni, Merloni, and Carrabis with possibly McAdam's replacement?

I'm sure McAdam will catch on quickly as he is a respected baseball guy. Neumy is probably a nice guy but I think he'll have a harder time. There are only so many horse racing gigs out there. Hopefully he was smart with the money he did make over the years, though I tend to think he may have blown much of it at the track.

Tanguay has to be working super cheap at this point, there is no way they pay him any kind of money at all.

CSNNE has programming other than Celtics' games?

Sad to see two good guys get pink slips three days before Christmas, but I'm not sure why CSNNE was employing them in the first place.

I saw him two summers ago at a concert in Prescott Park in Portsmouth NH. I have a close friend who was a former ProJo colleague of his, so it was an excuse to start a chat. He was very pleasant, as I was told he would be. He will land on his feet. I'm confident that Neumy has hedged his bets and will be OK, too.

I hope McAdam can join either Scott Lauber at ESPN Boston or the Globe finally cans Cafardo and Sean can take over.

McAdam is one of the best baseball writers in Boston. Brutal by CSNNE to dump him.

They actually have quite a lot of shows and some of them are actually decent unlike say NESN.

Curran's employer. I think CSN does a pretty solid job with football and basketball -- I def. turn to it at 11pm more often than I do NESN, and Mayo seems like a better match for Curran than whoever that woman they had opposite him was last year. But you do wonder whether even a market as insane about sports as Boston/NE can support multiple cable sports stations in a cord-cutting environment.

Maybe the CSNNE budget is being cannibalized to help fund the launch of the new NBC station in Boston?

they must need the budget to keep Kirk Minhane to show up on the Early Edition to debate Tanguay

edit: definitely will tune in right now to see if Gary goes off

Damn I liked Price a ton. McAdam over Tomase or Cafardo a billion times out of a billion. WEEI isn't going to out troll or hot take F and M so this just seems like shooting themselves in foot from website traffic perspective. Only Bradfo or Hannable worth it for baseball. Trags decent for Pats. But sucks.

Changes coming to WEEI.com as well.

I say the odds are above 50% that Price and McAdam are not replaced at their respective stations... Both guys were top notch, and it will be hard to replace them.. And if they do, its most likely either going to be in house, or a dumpster diver hire....

didn't McAdam spend a little time at ESPN Boston, moving from the Herald and right before CSN gave him big bucks?

Great so basically we get NESN 2.0 with terrible programming. I wonder if this will end the 98.5 simulcasts as well?

The epitaph on America's headstone.
There's no alternative if sports media companies want to stay in business. News and highlights are commodities and Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and the leagues themselves do it faster. Opinion is all that's left.

From Finn's piece:
“What happened today was disappointing certainly from a personal level,’’ said McAdam, who has more than a year left on his contract.
I assume this isn't the NFL and that contracts do matter. Do they just buy out the last year+ at a discount?

I understand the reasons behind it. I just have zero use for sports opinions. (or at least the ones being peddled on TV 99% of the time). Analysis I could live with. But there's not much of that, either, or it gets run over by the hot-take train. YMMV.

I'm not sure that's true. ESPN gives SportsCenter more prime real estate than Mike & Mike, Around the Horn, or whatever. (Yes, hot takez and pseudo-analysis invaded SC a long time ago, but it's still primarily a highlights show.)

I think the problem for CSNNE is that SportsCenter is the dominant highlight show, and NESN already owns the local-focused highlight show niche.

Wait. Do you get your highlights from SportsCenter?

SC is 80% sports yelling, 10%-anchor driven yuks, 5% stories about highlights and 5% actual highlights.

The problem isn't opinion-based programming - it's bad opinion-based programming based on hot takez and yelling. I gladly listened to Sean McAdam's reasoned and informed opinions on the Red Sox and MLB. Hopefully he lands somewhere, even if it isn't a Sox beat anymore.

And where the space given to opinion grows ever-larger, the likelihood it will be filled with uninformed dolts increases exponentially.

I do watch SportsCenter sometimes. The chatter is annoying, and they feature meaningless dunks and exaggerated acrobatics at the expense of attempting to summarize each game in the allotted 30-60 seconds, but it's still mostly highlights, at least in the overnight/early AM version of the show (which is the only one I watch more than occasionally).

I would appreciate a 30-minute, no-nonsense highlights show (like SportsCenter was in the 80s), but I acknowledge there isn't much of a market for that -- low-information fans like the splashy SC presentation, and most sophisticated fans are more willing than me to put in the effort to find highlights online and have a more customized experience.

couldn't they shift Neumy to NBC Boston to do the 6pm news?
This seems like the most logical move for Comcast to make. I understand why NESN, CSNNE, and WEEI have decided they don't want to pay beat writers to cover every game for all 4 major sports teams for their fledgling websites, but considering Comcast is starting a big 4 local station in a week from scratch, I don't know why they're thinning out on-air talent.
