I don't know, if you don't have confidence having your starter pitch to the opposing starter (an ex-AL poor hitting pitcher, too) in the 4th with 2 outs, down only 1, should you really be starting him at all?
My take at the time was that they didn't give a shit who pitched to Lester, but it was a way to make him wait another 5+ minutes between throwing pitches.
