momentum completely shifted on that terrible Werth send.

Even though LAD almost blew it right back, you knew Kenley would likely get through most of the rest of the way

Ok so...

Dave Roberts is the Dodgers Manager
Theo Epstein is the Cubs President
Terry Francona is the Indians Manager
The Jays just hired Ben Cherington

Cool

Greg Maddux has been part of a couple playoff games that were shorter than that 7th inning.

What an amazing game. Had no rooting interest just wanted drama and got that and then some.
I figured on Kershaw when Jansen came in for the 7th. That was cool. How much is left for the Cubs, probably not much.
The Dodger pen was great this year. Most innings of any pen in baseball with all the starter injuries.
Poor Dusty. I was surprised he pulled the lefty and brought in Kelley for Justin Turner. Turner has reverse splits this year and it's worth about .280 OPS!
Felt predictable for Turner to come through.
And the Nats 3rd base coach... wow!.

Murphy took him deep TWICE last year?!?!?

and he gets him to pop up! Wow, nice pitch CK. Murphy took two fastballs inner half deep last year and KErshaw gets him on a fastball up and in. BALLSY!!!
Kershaw said in the PC he missed his spot and got lucky. He said Murphy is the best hitter in the League and he was basically just trying to throw as hard as he could and hope he makes an out. What an incredible finish to that game. The best pitcher in baseball vs. the best hitter. Murphy hit .420 off fastballs this year. Crazy. Too bad that at-bat didn't go on a little longer.

Oh absolutely. I just think running Jansen for that long was aggressive and not necessary. I'm not familiar enough the Dodgers BP enough to get emphatic about it but that was a lot of pitches and seemingly abusive.
Yeah, the third (9th) inning made no sense to me. I don't understand why Roberts didn't give Kershaw a clean inning there instead of letting him inherit someone's runners.

Great series. Huge swing from Werth thrown out at home, and Pederson hitting the next pitch out to left to end Scherzer's great night.

The Dodgers either start Kershaw on three days rest for Game two, or five days rest for game three. The game two start would mean the possibility of four days rest for game five, three days rest for game seven. The game three start would mean four days rest for game six, five days rest for game seven.

Maeda starts game one, and Hill would have five days rest for game three. I think they go with Kershaw for the game two start.

Game 1 Oct. 15 Maeda
Game 2 Oct. 16 Kershaw
Game 3 Oct 18 Hill
Game 4 Oct. 19 Maeda
Game 5 Oct. 20 Kershaw
Game 6 Oct. 22 Hill
Game 7 Oct. 23 Kershaw

I agree the Dodger bullpen has been great this year, but Jansen(54.6%), Blanton(45.6%), and Dayton(52.8%) all have high flyball rates. In a short series, those flyball rates can be magnified. Jansen gave up a double and a home run in game three, and Grant Dayton gave up the two-run home run to Chris Heisey to make it a one-run game.

I think Roberts was hoping to limit his pitcher abuse to one victim if possible. Not bringing Kershaw in to face Harper shows that he would have preferred not to have to use him at all in the ninth.

Kershaw's last save was in the AFL. His catcher? Kenley Jansen.

He started Tuesday, so he'd be on regular rest for Game 2.

I was at the game last night and it was excruciating. Someone up thread said Dusty double switched his underwear all night and that was my impression also, an overmanaged game. When you have Rendon, Zimmerman, and your two best PH Robinson and Heisey out of the game by the 8th, something's wrong. On the other hand, I thought he should have pulled Scherzer after 6, he left him in one pitch too many. Others I was with said he should have left him in even after the homer. The Nats' bullpen had been nails all series then imploded in the 7th (including a potentially serious injury to Shawn Kelley), can't anticipate that and led to the double switches (see above).

Nats just couldn't get the big hit all night. Werth struck out twice with one out and a man on third, after an otherwise excellent series. Murphy had perhaps his worst PA of the series in the biggest spot by far at the end. And it ended with Wilmer Defo in Rendon's spot in the lineup facing Kershaw.

Frustrating to say the least.

The good news, for me at least, is that, with the size of the crowd and the fact that no one took Metro, traffic after the game was so bad that I forgot most of the worst of it by the time I got home from the game (at 2:45).

True, the one positive was virtually nobody left for Metro at ~11:30, though there was some movement earlier when the score hit 4-1. I got home at about 1:30.

I think Jason Werth has almost reached home plate by now.

Seriously, that send would make one forget Wendell Kim. We need a nickname for 3B coach Bob Henley. Talk about the End of the Innocence.

They showed a replay after the game with that graphic that calculates how far the runner is off the bag. He was 6 feet off 3rd base when Seager caught the throw from Toles.

The other goofy note from Kershaw's rookie league save with Jansen as his catcher; it was against the Nats' GCL team, managed by Bob Henley.
