In the amusing media hypocrites category, we have Gregg Doyel. As if we should be surprised by this, but the guy who demanded Belichick be suspended prior to the Super Bowl based on the false allegations in Mort's infamous "11 of 12" tweet is taking a wait-and-see approach to the Manning accusations.

@GreggDoyelStar I believe in Peyton Manning. We'll see how it plays out. But folks wonder what I'm thinking, so: I'm thinking I believe in Peyton Manning.

This is going to be fun, regardless of Manning's guilt/innocence.

The fact he is so quickly sitting for an interview is fascinating... Can't wait to hear him answer the wife question which has to be asked.
Really dumb of him to go on the record before Roger has had a chance to look him in the eyes and determine if his soul is pure.

I'm sure all of this will be cleared up when Peyton hands over his personal cell phone.

Did Manning back out of the interview? Maybe they pushed it back? I haven't seen anything.

Can we get a moratorium on this kind of stuff in this thread and just discuss the story? I'm as die hard a Pats fan as anyone but this is just so tiring.
Unfortunately I think it all ties together in the way the NFL will handle the leaks and the press. Remember things are already coming out that manning is a good guy and people defending him left and right. The claims might be BS but what it will more or less show is that ESPN is hypocritical when this affects their golden boy. I don't think Brunell is going to be crying when asked about it. HGH is good as is deer spray but supposed football tampering had.

The wording says it all. Not, 'I believe Peyton Manning,"--as if there's anything to go on one way or another at this point--it's "I believe in Peyton Manning." Unfortunately, 99% of sports "journalists" bring the same infantile worldview to their jobs.

The next chapter of this, in comparison to DFG, is how a prepared response from Manning's camp with highest order PR preparation and days notice of the report airing by Al Jazeera can shape the court of public opinion in the face of especially damning allegations and evidence.

I hate mort so much. Mort extensively has talked to Peyton who is "strong" in his denial and hasn't used it. Also denied shipment to home which is new.

Am I the only one who thinks this sucks? Peyton Manning has Mo level respect from me. The guy is one of the best ever. He should go out on his own terms.

I am annoyed with the people who can't plainly see that Tom Brady is maybe the greatest player of all time and that these scandals are manufactured nonsense. We should recognize the same in Manning.

Another factor in the coverage of this story is that every network that has NFL rights wants to hire Peyton Manning. He'll be the most sought-after ex-player in 10+ years. It's naive to think each network isn't weighing how their coverage will impact their ability to hire Manning, who could be actively looking for TV work in as little as a month from now.

This guy Sly can recant as much as he wants now, but having people on video admitting to illegal PED use at this place, is pretty damning (on those people). The shiptment to the house will be pretty important for Peyton* -- if it is true that his wife received HGH from Guyer, I don't see how he comes out unscathed.

Either way, I'm really looking forward to the NFL and ESPN squirming over this. I don't care whether or not Peyton did anything, but there will be the obvious comparison to the Brady situation here. I just want every question posed to Goodell and NFL execs to begin with some sort of "Based on the procedures used in the Brady case, will you be hiring an independent investigator to look into Peyton Manning's PED use?"

So what you're saying is the only network that will give this story even handed coverage is NBC CBS FOX ABC/ESPN NFL Network...shit. No wonder the initial report came from Al Jazeera.

The thing is, he has my respect whether he did HGH or not. My opinion is that Manning is one of the 3 best quarterbacks to ever play the game, and that won't change. It's just fun to see the press in general going all kiddy gloves on this story after a year+ of Brady bashing for maybe possibly being generally aware of a ball deflation scheme that may or may not have happened.

Peyton Manning has been an arrogant, entitled (and protected) idiot going back to his days at Tennesee. He has proven to be willing to lie and slander others to avoid having to face the consequences of his own behavior and it is a matter of public record that he's damaged the lives/careers of innocent people to protect himself.

That's my way of saying that while I am perfectly willing to believe that Manning is innocent in this case - I'll look at whatever evidence eventually comes out before I make that conclusion and it won't change my perception of him as a great player in any case - I don't give a shit about Peyton Manning as a person and am going to enjoy his discomfort.

That's a long way of saying "yes" to your initial question.

Ah, the Ray Lewis Effect. The difference there is that Lewis had already been hired by ESPN when the Deer Antler story broke, as I recall. I'm not sure I see Peyton doing this sort of gig, maybe he'll go the Elway route, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a factor in coverage nonetheless. Networks can dream.

He hadn't even finished his season yet, let alone retire and go to ESPN. It came out during the playoffs his final season.

This is funny. I am another one who couldn't care less any athlete is taking whatever, there is too much money involved not to assume everyone(or almost everyone) is doing something. And they should, in my opinion, and they should also be allowed to use HGH, in my opinion. Maybe draw the line at steroids, but let these guys get it done. They are doing it anyway. Why pretend they aren't?

But it's certainly something else how it's reacted to by the media.

Yes, I think you are the only one thinking this. Recall Manning throwing every player(but himself) under the bus after every playoff loss. Recall Manning being entitled from the moment he donned a football helmet. Recall his "aw shucks" demeanor and everyman "attitude", despite being a pampered and petulant player.

He's an amazing player. Certainly one of the best of all time. But he ain't no Mo. His actions and words have not allowed for such reverence.

Right, but he announced it was his last season well in advance and I believe he had already worked out a deal with ESPN for his future services. I will do some investigative journalism on this...

Edit - Ahh, no need.

Huh. My biggest takeway is the medical privacy and whether peyton will disclose all of it to Sauron Roger. Tend to doubt it.

Has Peppers or anyone else besides Manning come out yet against the report?
Why would they? All the heat is on Peyton for being the "big name" in the report. Let the story live or die with him for now because if it can't get traction with Peyton, they're all home free.

Should be very easy to see if shipments were actually made to Manning's home. If they weren't, this goes away. If they were, he is about to get cooked.
