This is immediately what I thought of when I saw that Riley quote.

It seems like the organization is just kind of sick of him
Yeah that was my sense. Definitely seemed to have the subtext of “I can’t get into specifics, but he’s a pain in the ass and they want to move on”. I was actually a bit surprised because while Jimmy certainly has a history of being Jimmy, I hadn’t heard anything recently and figured age and the fit/stability there had mellowed him out.

Seriously. Poor Maxey having to navigate the 70 combined games between Butler and Embiid
They would be scary as shit come playoffs if they would manage the two of them to be physically available though. Especially if they added some fit pieces.

jimmy did an interview a few years ago that had me convinced he was not the problem in chicago philly and minnesota. i still believe that
The Minnesota part I too bought. And in Philly he had Ben Simmons.

But if he flames out of Miami as well feels like it's hard to avoid the conclusion he's part of the problem, too

Nobody is a better talker than Jimmy. My impression based on teammates, reporters etc is....
Jimmy is an incredibly hard worker, people respect that.
He's also an enormous asshole who treats his teammates poorly because he thinks he'd Kobe/MJ and that being a leader is about being an asshole. It wears thin quick in part because he's not good enough to support it, and nobody wants to play 2nd fiddle to an asshole if you don't win, and often you get blamed because Jimmy is always working the media on his brand.

Kind of feels like a Mark Cuban move waiting to happen although matching salaries without Kyrie involved would be near impossible for Dallas or would seriously gut their depth.
On the other hand, the JB/Kyrie/Luka Mavs would be must see TV. They’d probably be good on the court, as well.

I still remember a Celtics game when Kevin McHale was on as a guest color guy, and in between quarters McHale was hot mic'd saying something (potentially - it wasn't super clear) about Jimmy being an a-hole. Anyone else remember that?
Yes. They came back from commercial and McHale was talking about often getting into it with someone. Called them a dickhead.
Camera was showing Butler at that time but McHale denied he was taking about Jimmy.
There was some speculation he may have been talking about Scott Foster.

I mostly agree with this. Jimmy seems like someone who gives 110% and expects everyone else to do the same, so he gets real moody when he perceives people aren't. MJ and Kobe were the same way. As you point out though, Jimmy isn't nearly as good as either of them, so it's tough to get behind a maniac whose stuff isn't translating to wins.

PTL that the most successful model of team dynamics is based on treating your teammates with respect, and understanding their strengths and weaknesses. And being focused on winning.
The approach championed by one Bill Russell.

I am going to add some conjecture to this just based off of a few random clips and interviews that I have seen...

I think everything you said is right but I also think Jimmy thinks he is much, much better than he is. Like I think he legitimately thinks he is the best basketball player ever. He also seems to think he is basketball's Albert Einstein (which is why he seemingly gets into it with every coach, including Spo)

When you combine all of these things together, it's a pretty toxic brew

Now imagine being an NBA coach and have to manage 15 players who all have the confidence to think they are better than they actually are? That’s a job right there. If a player at any level doesn’t think they are better than their level they would never be able to exceed that level. It’s a positive trait for an athlete not a negsticr one.
