Overall Career
Wilhelmus Abraham Remmerswaal (born March 8, 1954 in The Hague, Holland) was a right-handed pitcher from the Netherlands who spent his two-year big-league career with the Boston Red Sox in 1979 and 1980. When an injury to his pitching arm ended his big-league career in 1980, Remmerswaal went to play in Parma, Italy.
Sadly, recent years have not been kind to Win. In 1997, suffering from an addiction to alcohol and living on the streets, Win contracted double pneumonia with pleurisy and lapsed into a coma. Even though many doctors gave up on him, Win defied the odds and awoke three weeks later with brain damage.
Today, Win is confined to a wheelchair and living in a nursing home in his native Holland. In his two-seasons with Boston, Remmerswaal compiled a 3-1 record with a 5.50 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched.
