Overall Career
Wilton quickly rose through the minor league ranks, arriving at AA in 1998 and making the jump to the major leagues in 1999. Veras saw significant action after his second call-up of the season in September, and made the most of his time, hitting .288 with 2 home-runs and 13 RBI's in 36 games. The following season saw Veras stick with the big club, entering the season as the starting third baseman. Veras struggled early in the season, putting up a .244 average with no home-runs through 49 games. He was sent back to AAA Pawtucket to start July, where his struggles continued, hitting .211 with 3 homers the rest of the way. Although Wilton was still young (22 in 2000) and his career seemed promising, he would never make it back to the big leagues. He played all of 2001 in Pawtucket, split time between Double-A Trenton and Pawtucket in 2002, and by 2003 was playing in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Wilton was last seen playing independent league ball in 2006 with the New Jersey Jackals.
Moment in the Sun
- Drew an RBI walk from Eddie Guardado that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 April 13, 2000 victory over the Minnesota Twins. This is especially notable because he drew just 12 walks in 85 career games.
Trivia
- Wilton's first major league hit was in his second game, an RBI single off White Sox lefty Jim Parque.
Transactions
- February 9, 1995: Signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent.
