William Chester "Baby Doll" Jacobson was born on August 16, 1890, in Cable, Illinois. Jacobson was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 14, 1915, with the Detroit Tigers.

Jacobson had an 11-year career as an outfielder. In 1,472 games he batted .311 with 83 HR and 819 RBI. His best season was in 1920 with the Browns when he finished in the top ten in almost every offensive category. He hit .355 with 216 hits, and 122 RBI. His 484 putouts in 1924 stood as a record for 24 years, and in 1927 he played seven consecutive games for the Red Sox without a putout or assist.

  • Born in the coal mining town of Cable, Jacobson was the best ballplayer Mercer County, Illinois, ever produced.
