Career

Wendell Kim was born March 9, 1950 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He never played in the Majors, but did reach the AAA level in the San Francisco Giants playing in the Pacific Coast League. He began coaching in 1980 after being released.

He coached for several different teams in the Giants farm system untill 1989 when he became the third base coach for the Giants. Eight years later he became the third base coach for the Red Sox.

Kim was known as a very aggressive third base coach which lead to the nickname of Wave'em in Wendell or Send 'Em in Kim. He remained at that position until 2000 when he left to try his hand at managing with the Indianapolis Indians, the AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, and then became the Bench Coach of the Montreal Expos in 2002.

He returned to coaching third base with the Chicago Cubs in 2004, fans in Chicago felt the same as those in Boston, Kim was too agressive on the basepaths. The Cubs anounced on October 11, 2004 that Kim would no longer be their third base coach.
