Washington has been part of the team name for various major league teams in the American League and National League that have played in Washington, D.C.:

  • The Washington Nationals are current members of the National League East and have been a major league team since 1969. They have previously been known as the Montreal Expos (1969-2004)
  • The Minnesota Twins are current members of the American League Central and have been a major league team since 1901. They have previously been known as the Washington Senators and Washington Nationals (1901-1960).
  • The Texas Rangers are current members of the American League West and have been a major league team since 1961. They have previously been known as the Washington Senators (1961-1971).

Major league teams that have played in Washington state have all been located in Seattle.
