Overall Career
Walter William Kinney was born on September 9, 1893, in Denison, Texas. Kinney was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 26, 1918, with the Boston Red Sox.
In a 4-year career, Kinney posted a 11-20 record with 129 strikeouts and a 3.59 ERA in 290.2 innings. Kinney had poor control and went 9-15 while walking 91 in 202 innings in his most active season, 1919 with the Athletics. He saw little action during the last five weeks of the 1918 season with Boston, but did serve as one of Boston's batting practice pitchers in the World Series.

- During spring training in 1921 he was banned from baseball for five years by Commissioner Landis for violating his contract by joining an independent team that had offered him more money.
