Walter Henry Snell was born on May 19, 1889, in West Bridgewater, MA. Snell was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 1, 1913, with the Boston Red Sox.
Snell's entire major league career was 6 games as a catcher for the 1913 Red Sox. He batted .250 with 3 hits in 12 at bats.

- Walter Henry Snell was a baseball player turned scientist. Following his brief six-game stint in major league baseball as a reserve catcher, Snell earned a Ph.D. degree in botany and went on to a distinguished career as a college professor and athletic coach at Brown University.
