Walter Dedaker "Skinny" Shaner was born on May 24, 1900, in Lynchburg, VA. Shaner was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on May 4, 1923, with the Cleveland Indians.
Shaner had a 4-year career as an outfielder. In 207 games he batted .278 with 4 HR and 74 RBI.
