Overall Career
Walter Phillip Rehg was born on August 31, 1888, in Summerfield, Illinois. Rehg was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 14, 1912, with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Rehg had a 7-year career as an outfielder. In 263 games he batted .250 with 188 hits, 2 HR and 66 RBI. He led the AL with 10 pinch hits and 36 pinch at-bats for the 1914 Red Sox, but hit .219 overall that year. He missed most of the following season with a bad knee. Coming back with the Braves in 1917, he hit .270, earning the most playing time in his career and reaching personal highs of 48 runs and 31 RBI.

Rehg's Moment in the Sun
- Rehg lead the American League with the most pinch-hit at-bats (36) in 1914. He also tied with the Browns' Ernie Walker for the most base hits off the bench with 10.

Trivia
- Appeared as himself in two baseball movies, Fast Company and Alibi Ike.
- On August 28, 1917, while playing for the Boston Braves, Rehg is retired on a 3-4-6-9-1 put-out after failing to run out a ground ball.
- One of three Boston Braves outfielders to play for Navy in a 1918 exhibition game against the Indians.
