Overall Career

Wally Mayer broke into the big leagues with the White Sox in September 1911, but never got much playing time. He came to Boston in 1917 and played in four games (going 2-for-12). He was the team's third-string catcher in 1918, batting .224 in 26 games.

Moments in the Sun

In less than four weeks during the summer of 1918, Mayer got two 12th-inning, game-winning hits against Cleveland.

Trivia

Mayer was a former lithographer.

Transactions

February 28, 1919: Purchased by the St. Louis Browns from the Boston Red Sox for $5,000.
