Overall Career

Sylveanus Augustus Gregg was born on April 13, 1885, in Chehalis, Washington. Gregg was 25 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 12, 1911, with the Cleveland Naps.

Gregg had an 8-year career as a left handed pitcher. He finished with a 92-63 record, 720 Ks, and a 2.70 ERA in 1393.0 innings. Gregg started his professional career in Portland, Oregon in 1910 with the Pacific Coast League and threw 14 shut-outs. He continued his success in his rookie season with the Indians in 1911, going 23-7 to lead the AL with a .767 winning percentage and a 1.80 ERA. Traded to the Red Sox in mid-1914, he never again had a successful ML season.
