Eshelman's Moment in the Sun

Trivia

  • On March 17, 1996, Eshelman sustained second-degree burns on his hands while trying to put out a fire started when his wife, Julie, tried to heat up a baby bottle with a candle in their hotel room in Fort Myers, Florida. A wash cloth became ignited by the flame and when the fire spread, Eshelman tried to smother it with his hands. In Eshelman's words: "I'd never felt pain like that. It felt like my bones were on fire."
  • One of only eight Red Sox left-handed starters to have won as many as four games in their rookie campaigns since 1960.
