Overall Career
Torchia was originally signed by the Dodgers and played one season in their farm system. He would then spend the next 24 years as part of the Red Sox organization.
A first baseman by trade, he found his niche as a 'veteran leader' on his minor league teams, instructing his younger teammates on hitting techniques. After he retired as a player in 1974, he stayed on with the PawSox as a coach under manager Joe Morgan.
Torchia then managed the Winston-Salem Red Sox and New Britain Red Sox minor league teams in the late from 1976-1982. He became the Pawtucket Red Sox 3rd manager in 1983, and joined the Red Sox as a hitting coach in 1985.
Torchia has coached minor league teams for the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Montreal Expos and Houston Astros since leaving the Boston organization in 1986.
