Overall Career
Thomas Jefferson "Buttermilk Tommy" Dowd was born on April 20, 1869, in Holyoke, MA. Dowd was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 8, 1891, with the Boston Red Stockings.
Dowd came up as a second baseman, but spent the majority of his career as the right fielder for the St. Louis Browns. He was a player/manager in St. Louis for 62 games until he was fired early 1897. He was dealt to the Phillies a few days later, only to be reacquired by St. Louis for the following season.
Career totals in 1320 games was a .271 average, 23 HRs and 501 RBI.
