Thomas Michael McCarthy (born June 18, 1961 in Landstahl, West Germany) was a right-handed pitcher drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the seventh round of the 1979 amateur draft. He pitched 5 innings for the Red Sox in 1985 allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks.
On November 13, 1985, McCarthy was packaged with Chris Bayer, John Mitchell, and Bob Ojeda and traded to the New York Mets for Calvin Schiraldi, Wes Gardner, John Christensen, and La Schelle Tarver. He ended his career with the Chicago White Sox in 1989.
In three seasons, McCarthy compiled a 3-2 record with a 3.61 ERA in 84.2 innings.
