Overall Career

Walker was drafted in the first round of the 1994 draft by the Minnesota Twins. He made his MLB debut in 1996, and was traded to Colorado halfway through the 2000 season. One year later, the Rockies sent Walker to Cincinatti. After a strong year with Cinci in 2002, Walker was traded to the Red Sox for two PTBNL (minor leaguers Josh Thigpen and Tony Blanco).

In Walker's lone year with the Sox, he finished with a BA of .283 in 144 games. After Boston's heartbreaking postseason run of 2003, during which Walker came up big in several key moments, Walker signed with the Chicago Cubs as a free agent. He played for the Cubs until he was dealt at the trade deadline in 2006 to the San Diego Padres for pitcher Jose Ceda.

Walker was released by the Padres on March 27, 2007. He signed with the Oakland Athletics three days later. The A's designated Walker for assignment on May 12, 2007. In 18 games with Oakland, Walker hit .271/.288/.292 in 48 at-bats.

Walker's Moments in the Sun

  • Hit 5 homeruns in the 2003 playoffs, leading the team.
  • With 2 on and 2 outs, down by three runs, and a full count in the bottom of the 9th on September 23, 2003 vs the Baltimore Orioles, hit a game tying 3-run homerun which extended the game onto one more inning. The game would eventually be won on the first(on the Red Sox at least) of many David Ortiz walkoff homerun heroics.
  • Hit 2 homeruns in game 1 of the 2003 ALDS.

Trivia

  • 1993 College World Series MVP.
  • Tied a Minnesota Twins club record with 9 consecutive hits in 1998. He also matches a club record in reaching base safely 11 straight times.
