Overall Career

Toby Borland was born on May 29th, 1969 and made his major league debut with the Philadelphie Phillies 2 days before his 25th birthday. Borland would serve as middle relief for the Phillies during the 1994-1996 seasons.

After seeing his numbers struggle a bit during the 1996 season, Toby Borland was traded to the Mets in the off-season along with Ricardo Jordan in return for Rico Brogna. His season with the Mets would be brief, as he would walk 14 in only 13 appearances. The Mets would ship off Borland to the Boston Red Sox in May of 1997 for the equally questionable Ricky Trlicek.

Borland's Red Sox career was a brief blip, 3 appearances during games where the Sox were blown out by 9 runs in two games he appeared in, and six runs in the other. Toby Borland was released by the Red Sox in November of 1997.

In 1998, Borland would change organizations 4 times, and appear in 6 games for the Phillies. In his 6 appearances, the Phillies would go 1-5, and be outscored 61-35. He would have a brief stop in Florida, then Anaheim before finding a home back with the Florida Marlins from 2002-2004.

His latest attempt with a major league club came with the 2005 Saint Louis Cardinals, who released Borland in May of that year.

Borland's Moments in the Sun

On May 16th, 1997, Toby Borland struck out future Hall of Famer Paul Molitor of the Minnesota Twins. It would be Borland's only strikeout as a member of the Red Sox
