Timothy Green Hendryx was born on January 31, 1891, in LeRoy, Illinois. Hendryx was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 4, 1911, with Cleveland.

Hendryx had a 6-year career as an outfielder. In 416 games he batted .276 with 6 HR and 192 RBI. He got his first starting job with the depleted 1917 Yankee outfield. Another OF spot opened up with the 1920 Red Sox when Babe Ruth was sold to New York, and Hendryx, filling in, batted .328.
