Timothy Allan Harikkala (born July 15, 1971 in West Palm Beach, Florida) pitched briefly for the Red Sox in 1999. Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round of the 1992 amateur draft, Harikkala also played for the Mariners (1995-1996), Colorado Rockies (2004) and Oakland Athletics (2005). He was last seen pitching for the Samsung Lions in the Korean Professional League.

Over parts of 5 big league seasons, Harikkala posted a record of 7-8 with a 5.91 ERA in 96 innings.

Moment in the Sun

  • Harikkala once retired 26 straight batters, coming within one of a hidden perfect game. On May 26, 1999 against the New York Yankees, Harikkala pitched two innings, getting the last four outs consecutively. He did not pitch again in the Major Leagues until the Colorado Rockies called him up to pitch in April 2004. Harikkala then retired 22 consecutive batters in various different appearances until J.D. Drew walked in a game on May 1, 2004. Overall, Harikkala faced 36 consecutive batters without yielding a hit.

  • Named Seattle minor league pitcher of the year in 1994 when he went 16-4 with a 2.34 ERA between Class A and Class AA.
  • Teammates with CJ Nitkowski at Florida Atlantic University.
  • Never played college baseball in his two years at community college. He had tried out as an outfielder his first year and was cut, while a broken leg prevented him from playing in his sophomore year.
