Scouting Report

  • Tim Cox has excellent control. Changes speed well. Pitched for Australian U-18, U-16, and U-14 teams. Missed 18 months with a torn elbow ligament. Fierce competitor. ~ SoxProspects.com
  • "The knock on Cox is that he has a below-average fastball. He has a good breaking ball, and it's easy to fool hitters in low Class A with a good breaker. Adding some more velocity would help his cause. I wouldn't tag him as a setup man yet, but he has some potential." - Jim Callis

Overall Career

In his first professional season, Tim made 11 appearances with the Gulf Coast Red Sox in 2005 where he went 3-1 with a 2.19 ERA. He was promoted to Lowell in September, recording a 1-1 record with a 3.86 ERA. He pitched a total of 56.1 innings and had 66 K's while giving up only ten walks.

Cox pitched a career-high 103 innings at Single-A Greenville in 2006 where he struck out 83 batters and walked just 17 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.88. He finished with a 5-6 record as opponents hit .231 against him. Tim made one appearance for Single-A Wilmington on August 1, pitching 3 scoreless innings at Frederick. He allowed 3 hits, and issued one walk and struck out one.

Tim voluntarily retired from baseball on May 17, 2007. In 11 games with the JetHawks in 2007, Cox compiled a 1-1 record with a 6.18 ERA. Opponents hit .345 with 6 homers against him, and he posted a 18-8 K-BB ratio in 27.2 innings.
