The Cleveland Spiders, a defunct major league franchise, existed from 1887-1899. The organization's prize star was future Red Sox Cy Young. Their best season came in 1895 when Young led them to victory in the 'Temple Cup' championship. The Spiders are perhaps best known for finishing with the worst record in history, 20-134 in 1899 after the owners purchased the St. Louis Browns and transferred all of their good players from the Spiders to St. Louis.
