South African Baseball
From SoSH
Overview
While the South African Baseball Union is the overarching entity under which "professional" South African baseball is played, teams are basically structured as club teams affiliated to the organizing body within their province. There is no national South African league at this time, though national or large-scale tournaments occur frequently. Perhaps the best-known team club team in South Africa is the Westridge Yankees, who play near Cape Town.
South Africa's proudest baseball moment came when they beat Guam in 1999 to qualify for the Olympics for the first time. The country then went on to beat the Netherlands in the Olympics for their only Olympic victory.
No MLB player has ever been born in South Africa, though several are currently in the minors.
