Overall Career

Valdez spent parts of eight different seasons in the majors (primarily as a relief pitcher), but only had one which could be considered above league average: his 1992 season, where he made 27 appearances for the Expos with a 2.47 ERA. Sergio came to the Red Sox in 1994, one of five teams for whom he played, and pitched somewhat effectively for three weeks before imploding in his last three Sox appearances. Following an ineffective start against the Mariners on July 9, Valdez was sent to the minors, ending his brief career with the Boston Red Sox. He spent one more year as a member of the Giants before retiring at the end of the 1995 season.
