Sean Danielson was acquired by the Red Sox on 11/2/07, completing the trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for Joel Pineiro.

Scouting Report

  • Scrappy, undersized, and speedy, Danielson is a great clubhouse presence at any level. He's very capable defensively, able to play al three OF positions well with great range. Strong arm. At the plate, Danielson is a slap hitter who will dig out a few doubles but doesn't have much power. Good on base ability, runs the bases well. Projects as a 4th/5th outfielder at the MLB level, particularly as a late inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. ~ SoxProspects.com
  • Danielson projects as a 4th or 5th outfielder. He can run and has a strong arm for his size. Sean can play all three outfield positions. Not much power potential, but has displayed an ability to get on base. His .324 BABIP in 2007 might be a sign that his 2007 is about as good as his numbers will get. Well-liked and respected by his coaches and teammates. At 25 years old, he's nearing the end of his days of being classified as a prospect. He adds some more depth and versatility to the pool of outfielders in the system.

Amateur Career

  • Danielson played in just 11 games for Kansas State, hitting just .150 in 20 at bats.

Pro Career

  • All-Star for New York-Penn League’s New Jersey Cardinals in 2005, batting .344
  • Promoted to AA in 2007, where he batted leadoff and got on base at a .370 clip in 91 games, and was named a Texas League All-Star
