Amateur Career
A surprise early draft pick, having been unranked by Baseball America prior to the 2005 draft. Was drafted by the Sox in the 4th round of the 2005 draft. Had a 1-5 record and a 8.12 ERA as a HS junior. Improved to a 6-5 record with a 1.12 ERA, fanning 96 in 68 innings as a senior.

Pro Career
Has battled health issues since being drafted, and so has lots of ground to make up in order to become a prospect. Was diagnosed with a partially torn labrum after signing with the Sox in 2005, and so was rested until late August. Had disasterous GCL debut, pitched only 3 innings with 9 walks and 7 earned runs.
Missed the entire 2006 GCL season with a broken hand and a subsequent suspension issued by the Red Sox because of attitude issues.
