Pennant Winning 1957 Team

In 1956, the Red Sox left their long term AAA affiliate, the Louisville Colonels, moving back to the Pacific Coast League for the first time 20 years (when the Sox had been affiliated with the San Diego Padres). Although the PCL was at this point considered an "Open" Designated League, it was used by the Red Sox as their AAA affiliate.

The 1957 season was a bittersweet one for the Seals. The team would win their final PCL Championship, as the team went 101-67 and won the pennant by 4 games. However, Major League Baseball was coming to the West Coast... and it would be the Seals final season.

After the season, the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Seals/PCL came to an interesting agreement. The Seals would cede their territory to the Giants (who played their first two seasons at Seals Stadium) and move to Phoenix. The Red Sox and Giants would switch affiliations, with the Giants moving to Phoenix, and the Red Sox moving back to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
