Overall Career
Mahay was drafted by Boston in the 18th round of the 1991 draft and made his major league debut in 1995, as an outfielder. He was one of the many players shunned during this time, as he was one of the many so-called replacement players who went to Spring Training during the 1995 strike. His 1995 stint was short, as he only played in 5 games. However, in his final game before being sent to the minors, he hit an exciting HR, his first (and only) one against the Angels in Anaheim. He was soon converted to a left-handed pitcher, and came back to the Sox in 1997, where he pitched in 28 games out of the pen. He pitched in 29 games the next season.
Prior to the 1999 season, the Oakland A's claimed Mahay off waivers from the Red Sox. One year later, he was traded to the Florida Marlins for cash. For the next three years, Mahay bounced from AAA to the majors, playing for the Marlins, Chicago Cubs, and the Texas Rangers, where he last signed in November of 2002.
On July 31, 2007, Mahay was traded with Mark Teixeira to the Atlanta Braves for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Beau Jones.
