Richard Alan Garcés Mendoza, Jr. [gar-CESS] (born May 18, 1971, in Maracay, Venezuela) is a former Major League Baseball right-handed relief pitcher. Nicknamed "El Guapo", he is one of the most beloved relief pitchers in Red Sox history.

Moment in the Sun
- July 2001, with the Red Sox at Montreal (32,000 in attendance... most of them Red Sox fans), Guapo came to bat greeted with a thunderous standing ovation
- Enjoyed useful seasons from 1998-2001 as a middle reliever
- Was reported missing in Venezuela in 2005, only to return safely 10 days later from a beach party.

- El Guapo was originally given to Garces by then-teammate Mike Maddux upon Maddux's comments on Garces' look-alike status with the villain in the Movie 'The Three Amigos'
- El Guapo means 'the good-looking one' in Spanish
- In the 2001 Sox Wives' cookbook, Crowding the Plate, Garces listed his favorite restaurant on the road as the "Cheesecake Factory -- Chicago"
- Now pitches for the Nashua Pride in the Can-Am League.
