Overall Career
Maurice Joseph "Red" Shannon was born on February 11, 1897, in Jersey City, NJ. Shannon was 18 years old when he broke into the big leagues on October 7, 1915, with the Boston Braves.
Shannon had a 7-year career as a second baseman. In 310 games he batted .259 with 277 hits, 0 HR and 91 RBI. Red went straight from Seton Hall to the Braves in 1915 with Joe, his identical twin. Joe's ML career consisted of five games with Boston, but he returned to the majors two seasons later and spent several years as a utility infielder.
