Overall Career
Philip Julius "Hook" Todt was born on August 9, 1901 in St. Louis, Missouri. Todt was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 25, 1924 with the Boston Red Sox. Todt had an 8-year career as a first baseman. In 957 games he batted .258 with 57 HR and 453 RBI.
He led the league's first basemen in fielding (.997) in 1928, but he was handicapped as a lefthanded hitter by Fenway Park's deep centerfield and right-field fences. Todt was the Red Sox' first baseman while they finished last in the AL for six straight seasons.
