Paul John Quantrill was born on November 3, 1968 in London, Ontario, Canada. This now-retired right-handed relief pitcher spent 5 years in the Red Sox organization. The Sox drafted Quantrill in the 6th round of the 1989 draft. Bouncing between the starting rotation and the bullpen, Quantrill appeared in 93 games with the Sox over three seasons before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in May of 1994. After two rough seasons at the Vet, Quantrill was sent to the Toronto Blue Jays. It was there that Quantrill experienced his most impressive season in 2001, when he finished with an ERA of 3.04 in 80 games. After a career year, the Blue Jays confused the baseball world by sending Quantrill and Cesar Izturis to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Luke Prokopec and Chad Ricketts. After two seasons in LA, Quantrill signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees. Quantrill became Joe Torre's favorite toy in 2004, and after pitching 95 innings, his career high as a reliver, Quantrill's arm fell off. The following year, Quantrill was to San Diego and then, Florida. Upon discovering a lack of work for a one-armed pitcher, Quantrill retired after the World Baseball Classic in 2006.
