Overall Career

Myers was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 4th round of the 1990 entry draft. In 1992 he was selected by the Florida Marlins in the Rule 5 draft. Myers made his Major League debut in 1995 with Florida, and has since played for the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Seattle Mariners.

The Red Sox acquired Myers from Seattle in a waiver deal for the stretch run and playoffs in the 2004 season, and he went 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA in 25 appearances. After winning a World Series ring, Myers signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as a free agent in the off-season, but was shipped back to Boston at Terry Francona's request for two minor leaguers on March 29, 2005.

On December 8, 2005, Myers signed a deal with the devil and agreed to wear the pinstripes of the New York Yankees.

Moment in the Sun

  • Made Garrett Anderson his bitch during the 2004 ALDS vs Anaheim.
  • A crucial strikeout of Hideki Matsui (who had been previously killing the Red Sox, before Pedro's brushback pitch in Game 5) during Game 5 of the 2004 ALCS.

Trivia

  • Won a gold medal with Team USA in the 1987 US Olympic Festival.
  • Was traded from Milwaukee to Colorado for one Curtis Leskanic in 1999. Also traded for Bryce Florie and SoSH favorite Jack Cust.
  • Was the first player signed to get one guy out (David Ortiz) when he was inked to a 2-year deal by the New York Yankees. Ortiz is 2-3 with a home run and strike out against him.
  • Set a Detroit rookie record with 83 appearances in 1996.
  • Has the most all time appearances of facing only one batter.

Quotes

  • Myers on the origins of his side-winding delivery: "I was throwing straight as an arrow right over the top, but I wasn't throwing it by anybody. I never had the ability to do that... [Al] Kaline suggested my throwing sidearm to give me a little bit of funk and mystery against left handed hitters. After what I did against Baltimore, I just kept going from there." [1]
