Overall Career
Mickey Charles Mantle (October 20, 1931 – August 13, 1995) was a star from the start, parlaying a talent for the game and boyish good looks into iconic status. In spite of a series of devastating injuries, Mantle accumulated a long list of impressive accomplishments, finishing his 18-year career with 536 home runs and a .298 batting average. The switch-hitting "Commerce Comet" won three MVP awards (1956, ’57, ’62) and a Triple Crown (1956). He contributed to 12 pennants and seven World Series titles in his first 14 seasons, while establishing numerous World Series records, including most home runs (18).

Red Sox Nation Villainy
- September 29, 1956: Mickey Mantle has only one hit against Boston pitching, but it is his 52nd HR. In the 2 late-season series against Boston, Mantle has 7 hits in 14 at bats, while Ted Williams has just 3 hits in 20 at bats. Mantle wins the Triple Crown with a .353 batting average, 52 HRs, and 130 RBI.
- November 22, 1957: Mickey Mantle edges Ted Williams 233 to 209 votes to win the American League MVP. Williams, at 39 years of age, led the league in hitting with a .388 average, hit 38 home runs, and compiled a slugging average of .731. Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey brands the voting "incompetent and unqualified," noting that two Chicago writers listed Williams in the 9th and 10th places on their ballots.
- September 24, 1960: Mickey Mantle's 11th inning homer off Ted Wills gives New York a 6–5 win over the Red Sox at Fenway. Mantle had driven in the games first run with a drag bunt in the first.
