Overall Career
Mel Parnell made his Major League debut in 1947 and struggled for the year. He appeared in 15 games and had an ERA of 6.39. His ERA+ was just 61. Parnell walked more batters than he struck out that year, and typically did so. He won 123 games in his Red Sox career with an ERA of 3.50. He led the American League in ERA in 1949 and won 25 games. He was the starting pitcher for the American League in the All-Star game that year.
