Pro Career

After being assigned to Lowell, Van Der Bosch played 60 games for the Spinners in 2004. He stole 28 bases, was caught stealing just once, and batted a respectable .271. In 2005, he bagan the season with the Greenville Drive. Matt played 35 games for Greenville, stole just 8 bases, but batted .290 and got on base at a .427 clip. He was promoted to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, where he played the bulk of his 2005 season. In 69 games, he had a .347 OBP, and stole 16 bases. He played the final 11 games of the season with the Portland Sea Dogs.

In 2006, Matt made an appearance in Spring Training, going 0 for 3 with a HBP and was caught stealing. It was perhaps a sign of the difficult start Matt would have in 2006. In his first 35 games with Portland, he has batted just .167. He was breifly promoted to the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox from July 5 to July 20th before returning to Portland. Since his return, Matt has raised his average to .203, serving as the team's starting right fielder and hits in the #2 spot in the order behind Jacoby Ellsbury.

Scouting Report

Matt does not hit for much power at 5'8", but has 'plus-plus' speed, which makes him a threat on the basepaths and a solid outfielder. He has displayed the ability to work the count, draw walks and get on base. As he has progressed through the minors, his OBP and stolen base totals have declined. He posesses a decent arm and his managers speak highly of his clubhouse presence.
