Overall Career
Clement, a ground ball pitcher, was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1993 entry draft by the San Diego Padres. In March of 2001 he was traded to the Florida Marlins and then to the Cubs one year later.
In his first year with the Red Sox, Clement started off well, going 10-2 before the All-Star Break and earning a spot on the team. On July 27, 2005 Clement was struck in the head by a Carl Crawford line-drive. Though it is often claimed that Clement "was never the same" after being hit, this does not correlate with the statistical evidence. He was shelled in his 4 most recent starts prior to the accident, giving up 22 earned runs in 23 IP. And after missing only 1 start he had a very fine August (his second-best month of the season, after May). Over 5 starts from August 9-September 3 Clement pitched very well, allowing only 8 earned runs over 33 IP for a 2.18 ERA. Additionally, his BB numbers remained the same though his strikeout totals did decrease slightly. His two worst months that season were July, which preceded the incident, and September.

- On May 28, 2002, Clement became the 21st big league pitcher and the first Cubs' hurler in over a century to hit three batters in one inning to tie a major league record.
