Overall Career
Drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 8th round of the 2000 amateur draft, Malaska labored in the minors until his 2003 debut with the big club. The Boston Red Sox claimed Malaska off waivers from the Devil Rays after the 2003 season. Splitting his time between Pawtucket and Boston in 2004, Malaska appeared in 19 games for the Red Sox and finished the year with an ERA of 4.15. Astonishingly, Malaska was signed to a one-year deal by Boston in March of 2005, and optioned to Pawtucket 20 days later. 10 days later, the magical ride came to an end as Malaska was DFA'd.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed Malaska to a minor league contract in January of 2006. Two and a half months later, Malaska retired from baseball and secured a sales position at a Rhode Island BMW dealership. In a two-season career, Malaska compiled a 3-2 record with a 3.75 ERA in 36 innings.
