Overall Career
Mark David Loretta (born August 14, 1971 in Santa Monica, CA), was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 7th round in 1993. He made his major league debut in 1995, and 7 years later was traded to the Houston Astros for 2 PTBNL. In December of 2002 he signed with the San Diego Padres as a free agent. When Loretta stayed healthy, he was a solid addition to the infield. On December 7, 2005, the Padres traded Loretta to the Red Sox for Doug "The Stud Who No Longer Hits Bombs" Mirabelli. On January 4, 2007, Loretta signed a one-year contract with the Houston Astros.

- April 17, 2006 vs Seattle Mariners With Big Papi on deck and Kevin Youkilis at 1st w/ 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, Mark Loretta hits his first career walkoff HR into the Monster Seats making a memorable Patriot's Day game for everybody
- May 11, 2006 @ MFY With the bases loaded and 2 outs in the top of the 7th, Loretta hits an infield single, which, thanks to an error by Captain Calm Eyes himself, Derek Jeter, scores two runs to give the Red Sox the 4-3 lead, which they'll hang on to win by that score.
- August 2, 2006 vs Cleveland Indians Loretta hits a 2-run, walkoff double to give Sox a second dramatic win in 3 days versus Cleveland.
- October 1, 2006 vs Baltimore Orioles Loretta homers in his final plate appearance for the Red Sox.

Trivia
- Loretta is the only Padre other than Tony Gwynn to collect over 200 hits in one season.
- Loretta was named the Big 10 MVP in 1993 as a shortstop for Northwestern, something fellow Nothwestern Hall of Famer Joe Girardi was never able to do.
