Lynn Jones

Lynn Jones was the Red Sox First Base coach during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He was born January 1, 1953 in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Coaching Career
Before coming to Boston to coach first base, Jones held the First Base Coach's job for the Kansas City Royals from 1991-1992 and later for the Florida Marlins in 2001. In between those years, Jones managed minor league teams for the Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins.
Playing Career
Jones was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 10th round of the 1974 amateur draft, and played in their minor league system until being picked up by Detroit in the 1978 Rule 5 draft. Jones say limited playing time in five seasons with the Tigers. After the 1983 season, Jones signed with the Kansas City Royals as a free agent. He played three seasons in Kansas City, and was a member of the 1984 Division Winner and the 1985 World Champion team. Jones retired after the 1986 season.
Jones's Moments in the Sun
- Jones was named Detroit's Rookie of the Year in 1979.
- Jones went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple in the 1985 World Series against St. Louis.
- In addition to his World Series ring as a player with Kansas City, Jones won his second ring coaching first base for the Red Sox in 2004.
Trivia
Jones nearly lost an eye in a freak accident in May, 2004. He was opening a box at his home using a screwdriver, and when he dislodged the screwdriver from the box, it struck his right eye, almsot costing him his sight in that eye and the ability to coach.
