Overall Career

Luis Ernesto "Little Louie" Aparicio Montiel was born on April 29, 1934 in Maracaibo, Venezuela and signed as an amateur free agent in 1954 by the Chicago White Sox. Aparicio was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 17, 1956, with the Chicago White Sox. Aparicio spent 18 seasons in the major leagues as a shortstop. On December 1, 1970 Aparicio was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Boston Red Sox for Mike Andrews and Luis Alvarado. His major league career ended on March 26, 1974 when he was released by the Red Sox.

He won the Rookie of the Year honors in 1956, collected nine Gold Glove awards, led the American League in stolen bases nine seasons and was named to the All Star squad 10 times. When he retired in 1973, he held the career record for shortstops for games played, double plays and assists.
