Overall Career
Lore Verne "King" Bader was born on April 27, 1888, in Bader, Illinois. Bader was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 30, 1912, with the New York Giants.
Bader pitched in two games for the New York Giants in 1912. With Boston in 1917, he was 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in 15 games, all but one in relief. After that season, Bader enlisted in the Navy. He was discharged in June 1918 because of loose knee ligaments, and he rejoined the Red Sox. Bader was also known as "Two Pairs" because he loved playing cards.
Bader pitched with Toronto (International League) in 1920 and 1923 and was a player-manager with Lynn, Mass. (New England League) in 1926. He also worked as a Boston Braves scout in 1927. He managed the Hartford club in the Eastern League in 1930.
